The post Ways to Celebrate Earth Day in Washington, DC appeared first on District Blog.
]]>Earth Day is an event that takes place every year on April 22 that demonstrates support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, Earth Day now includes a wide range of events coordinated by EarthDay.org
Here are the six ways to do Earth Day this year. The first is to increase your climate literacy and promote the education of climate literacy for students. Second, end plastics. Plastic pollution is one of the most important environmental problems facing us. Third, donate as little as one dollar to plant a tree.
Next, use your voting power to protect our environment. Then, join a global cleanup campaign. Find a local event to clean up your communities, beaches, rivers, lakes, trails, and parks. Finally, shop sustainable fashion. Fight fast fashion by shopping secondhand or purchasing from eco-friendly stores and shops.
These are the six ways being focused on this year for Earth Day 2023. We encourage all of our residents to participate in Earth Day in as many ways as possible. Also, District urges our community to continue their Earth Day activities all year long.
For example, participate in a community cleanup every month, use only reusable water bottles, or shop at sustainable brands as often as possible.

]]>Not only will a clean and organized space look great, but it will also improve moods, decrease stress levels, and increase creativity. It is the ideal time to put away winter essentials and prepare your space for the warm weather.
The best tip for spring cleaning is to break large tasks into small chores. For example, work room by room to focus your energy. Another way to do this would be to complete one type of chore at a time. Such as all of the dusting or all of the vacuuming at once.
Next, focus on practical organization. Everyone has seen those videos online of fabulously organized refrigerators and nightstands, but they are not very practical. This year, focus on organization with practicality and usefulness in mind.
Along with the usual chores, use this time to properly put away anything you only need for winter, like heavy coats. Then turn your attention to deep cleaning. Cleaning parts of your space that are often forgotten. Such as baseboards, shower curtains, and window dressings.
See spring cleaning as an opportunity for a fresh start, not a daunting task.

]]>Your resolutions may look different this year too, as these past few years have taught everyone a lot about overall health and proper lifestyle choices.
Perhaps you want to try smaller goals this year instead of one overarching goal for the year. Just make sure you set a goal that works for you! Here are some ideas to get you started.
There are the usual ideas of getting healthier or eating better, and those are always great! Find ways to stay active during the day, even in simple ways. Maybe purchase a standing desk so you’re not hunched over all day. Maybe purchase a healthy eating subscription service, and have less junk food in the house.
Some other non-typical resolution ideas include being more polite, meeting new people, learning a new skill, becoming more romantic, or so many other things!
No matter your New Year’s Resolution, stay dedicated, create realistic goals, and walk into the new year with your head held high!

]]>Stop in and use the injera to scoop up tibs. It’s an Ethiopian take on stir-fry starring your choice of protein (usually lean meat such as beef, lamb, or chicken) seared with veggies, spices, and herbs, then served with the classic flatbread. The signature tibs ferfer actually has pieces of injera mixed right into the sauteed combination of meat and veggies, which is all drizzled with a hot chili pepper sauce. Meanwhile, the goden tibs showcases fried short ribs with caramelized onions and diced jalapenos, and the nech tibs feature a mild broth seasoned with tomatoes and jalapenos. You might also want to try the wot, a slow-cooked Ethiopian stew teeming with clarified butter and spices. It comes with fiery flavors and beef, boneless chicken, or tender chickpeas.

]]>The first Thanksgiving dates back to 1621, when the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag shared an autumn feast. Then, for more than two centuries, Thanksgiving was celebrated on different days by the US colonies and states. It wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.
According to the National Turkey Federation, 90% of American households eat turkey for Thanksgiving- whether it be roasted, baked, or deep-fried. Other traditional foods include stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.
Parades have also become a common aspect of the holiday. Presented by Macy’s department store since 1924, New York City’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is the largest and most famous, attracting up to 3 million in-person spectators along its 2.5-mile route and drawing an enormous television viewing crowd.
As in the name, Thanksgiving is dedicated to giving thanks. So, this year take an extra moment to figure out what you are most grateful for.

]]>So you can feel terrific about dining at Planta whether you’re a vegan or not. You won’t even miss the meat at the plant-based Asian restaurant. Its sushi chefs artfully craft rolls sans seafood, using veggies like eggplant or even watermelon as stand-ins. For instance, the ahi watermelon nigiri comes glazed with ginger and citrus soy, while the mushroom “bacon” inari harnesses the umami flavor of fungi. Meanwhile, a baked crab roll is actually stuffed with hearts of palm, plus ponzu and spicy mayo. Foray into raw fare with the pad Thai slaw, kelp noodles tossed with green papaya, peppers, cabbage, and peanut sauce. Or sink your teeth into a signature entree such as the avocado-lime tartare, showcasing beetroot “tuna” with pine nuts, capers, citrus soy sauce, sesame, cilantro, and crispy taro chips.
